Perspectives, the way that we look at things, how we see with our own mind’s eye…has everything to do with the story we tell, the behavior we chose, and how we live our lives.
Recently, I came across this thought-provoking video from Collective Evolution on how to deal with pain. It struck a chord in me since I often deal with clients who seek counseling due to physical and emotional pain (and of course I’ve had my share too!). This video left me thinking and I hope it will do the same for you!
Summary: A man experiences pain and is always complaining about it. His master asked him to place a cup of salt in a glass of water and drink it. He did. It was bitter. The two walked to a nearby lake. The man was asked to put a cup of salt in the lake and drink it. He did. It tasted fresh…he could not taste the salt.
Analogy: Pain in life is like pure salt. The “bitterness” we taste depends on the “container” we put the pain in. When you are in pain the only thing to do is ENLARGE your sense of things.
STOP being a Glass.
BECOME a Lake.
Watch the video. Then share a time in your life (as difficult as it was) that you chose to “enlarge your sense of things” to become a LAKE?
